The UNHOLY Roman Catholic Church (Part 2)

Continued from Part 1....

Catholic Church statements in Bold.
Scripture in itallics.
My comments in red.

9) The Catholic Church teaches that forgiveness can only be granted by a priest.

Matthew 9:2-7
2. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."
3. And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, "This Man blasphemes!"
4. But Jeus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why do you think evil in your hearts?
5. "For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'?
6. "But that you may know the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"-then He said to the paralytic, "Arise take up your bed, and go to your house.
7. And he arose and departed to his house.
For a priest to claim that he can forgive sins is to make himself eqaul to God (and Jesus). Only God can forgive sins! This is something the scribes understood from the Law and the Prophets. The Son of Man (Jesus) is the only One who can make the claim of being God, proved by His innumerable miracles (including raising people from the dead) and His own resurrection which cannot be historically disproved. I don't see any priests (or the Pope for that matter) healing paralytics, raising people from the dead, etc. According to Old Testament scripture, these catholic priests should be stoned to death for making such claims.

10) The Catholic Church teaches that you must continually go to the confession booths and ask for forgiveness every time you sin, and if you miss one you either pay in Purgatory....or just go straight to hell.

Colossians 1:13
13. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love...
Hebrews 10:14
14. For by one offering He (Jesus) has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Romans 6:14
14. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Those who have been born again of the Holy Spirit have been sanctified and made forever perfect in God's sight through the blood of Christ. Those who are perfected cannot sin...they are no longer under the law (the Torah/Holy Law). Jesus offered Himself once and only once, so how is it possible to get "more forgiveness"?

11) The Catholic Church teaches that if you commit suicide you go straight to hell guaranteed, no matter what..."do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars!"
Romans 8:38,39
38. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39. nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to seperate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16
16. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting (eternal) life.
Eternal life means eternal life. The only way to lose life is by death. Death comes through sin. If you cannot sin under the new law of grace than how can you lose eternal life? If Jesus paid for all sin, then the sin of suicide is also paid for. Eternal life is not life temporarly on loan nor is it possible to be 'unborn' once youve been born again.

12) The Catholic Church teaches that in order to be accepted by Jesus you must
a. confess your sins as often as possible,
b. give us your money, and
c. take our classes.

John 6:37,40
37. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
40. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and beleives in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up in the last day.

13) The Catholic Church teaches that the priest is the Mediator between God and man. You're not good enough to come to Jesus on your own, so you must come through the priest.
Hebrews 9:14,15
14. how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works (like Catholic traditions) to serve the living God?
15. And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption (forgiveness) of the transgressions under the first covenant (righteousness through obedience in the Law), that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inhertance.
JESUS is the Mediator of the new covenant between God and man. The Catholic Church is not Jesus. "Priests" are actually the people who offered the atoning sacrifice on behalf of the people. God never called for priests under the new covenant. So why would they call themselves priests in the first place? The Church of Jesus is the new priesthood (1 Peter 2:5,9).

14) The Catholic Church teaches that the Virgin Mary never died but ascended into heaven at the end of her life.
Romans 6:23
23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 9:27
27. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.
So Mary was perfect and without sin? Enoch and Elijah never died and must come back as the 2 witnesses during tribulation in order to die. Jesus lived and died as a sinless man. Is Mary really equal to Jesus? Will Mary be the only one in heaven who has never died, including Jesus? I dont think so.

15) The Catholic Church claims that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life and ascended into heaven a virgin.

Matthew 13:55
55. "Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?"
Ok....so either Jesus' brothers were Mary's sons or Joseph cheated on Mary. Do you really think she would have gotten married and never had sex? Mary was chosen to give birth as a virgin it was nothing in her power that caused this event. The Catholic Church just wants to "deify" Mary anyway they can. It is often the desire of people to worship the created instead of the Creator. Only acknowledging Mary as a virgin is like only acknowledging the baby Jesus and not the resurrected Messiah. Jesus did not remain a baby nor did Mary remain a virgin.

16) The Catholic Church, as of recently, does not stand up to Darwin's theory of evolution. Instead they accept evolution as science and do not want to challenge it. The Catholic Church does not discourage the teaching of Darwinian evolution.
Do I really even need to go there?

I think we can apply this to today....

Matthew 15:12-14
12. Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees (religious leaders) were offended when they heard this saying?"
13. But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
14. "Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch."
To be continued...

  • Sir, I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but the so-call "statements of the Catholic Church" you post here are neither statements of the Church nor are they teachings of the Church. It's high time you learned what the Catholic Church teaches and stopped advertising your own version of what you believe. There isn't enough space here to address your inaccurate and often wholly untrue statements. Why do you spend so much energy attacking Christ's Church? Spend that energy loving God, God's children, and spreading the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ. Stop taking the Holy Bible and twisting its words to suit your own needs. Stop lying - learn the truth. In all of this you will not be able to do anything however without Jesus and without a heart and mind truly open to the Holy Spirit.
In the Joy of Christ's love for us all,

  • John-

Could you please take 5 minuets and pick one of the statements and tell us what you have been told/taught? Some of us are very familiar with the Catholic Church's teachings...point out one thing you disagree with and let's engage in some healthy dialogue. Surely you could take a little time to answer one of these points instead of surfing the blogs?

    Question:
Just a point of humility...who made the Catholic Church Christ's Church?

    (My answer is...THe Catholic Church!)

  • Uhh yes please prove us wrong. This is what the Cathoic Church teaches, has always taught, and will continue to teach. I don't see it's doctrines changing any time soon. This statements come from the Catholic Church directly. If youre catholic and this bothers you then maybe you should do your homework. It's ok, most catholics neither understand catholic doctrine nor what the bible teaches. And it's not your fault...the catholic church purposfully and has always suppressed the truth. I would love for you to give me reason to beleive otherwise on ANY of these statements.

  • Do you think it could be possible that Joseph could have been married before and then became a widower? Thus allowing Jesus to have step-brothers and not true that Joseph, who was a just man (Mt 1:19), was not a fornicator. Also, some of the arguments posted seem to try to bind God to our human way of thinking, e.g. "Do you really think she [Mary] would have gotten married and never had sex?" My question is...were you there? Who would you believe, people who lived during the time and passed a certain truth down from one generation to the next or a new kid on the block who wants to posit a new idea, which, by the way, is not new, cf St. Jerome and his dialogue with Helvidius on the perpetual viriginty of Mary. Also, the Catholic Church honors Mary above all the saints because she is the mother of God. Also note her "fiat," i.e. Lk 1:38 - "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." This is a prayer that should echo in all our hearts as Christians, we serve the One Eternal God manifested in our service of one another. Maybe look at it this way; Mary raised the Son of God, Jesus. She and Joseph had to teach him how to do all sorts of human things, e.g. manners at a table, how to build things out of wood, etc. The Catholic Church honors Mary, but NEVER puts Mary on the same level as God, because she isn't. We, as Catholics, do respect her because she had a tremendous task of being the Mother of God.

  • And I very much respect her for that. We asnwer these comments in our next posts so I will not do it here. Just know that if it seems like I'm thinking like man, It's because I'm trying to promote critical thinking. I'm not neccessarily laying down facts. Far too often poeple allow others to think for them instead of finding the truth themselves. Our public school system and the catholic church especially does not promote critical thinking...I dont try to bind God but I think the catholic church puts people in mental and spiritual bondage. I will write more on my reasoning for this in future posts.

  • John 20:21-23 states:
Again Jesus said, 'Peace be with you' As the Father has sent me, I am sending you'. And with that he breathed on them and said 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.'

After centuries of thought, argument, etc The Catholic Church implemented this directive thru their priests both in individual Reconciliation and in a form of General confession. Its early application was for those who recanted Christianity after torture, but who wanted to come back to the Church. Its practice was expanded gradually to its current form. Early Protestant churches (ie: Anglican) have a form of General Confession which is used before Communion.

My question to the bloggers out there: How does your church/congregation implement this practice? What do you think the repercussions in your church would be if you asked your leadership this question. I've heard it said that these words were only for the Apostles, and only they could forgive sins. That strikes me as somewhat ingenuous, being that they were sinners like the rest of us.
